Slow Music for Record of the Week!

The lovely chaps at Norman records have decided that they like “Slow Music for Rapid Eye Movement” by Ekca Liena so much, that it’s their record of the week! Many thanks to Phil and the team for that, Ekca is dead chuffed.

Here’s what they said about it:

“Ekca Liena is another new name to me. It’s another of those releases on the Dead Pilot label and this one is limited to 100 copies in a metal tin. We all thought it looked well swish as the metal tin has a sort of large port hole in the middle of it for the artwork to poke through into your eyes. It’s called ‘Slow Music For Rapid Eye Movement’ and it struck me on first listen as pretty smart. Ambient, post rock, drone and eletronica all mixed up into a pot and all connected together very melodically. I hear a lot of music and what struck me about this was they really have a fine ear for melody as it sounds really well composed and put together. There’s a lot of people making music like this now but this sits head and shoulders above almost all of it due to the simple fact this guy is clearly really talented. I’ll be gutted now if his next record is shite….. Bits of Tim Hecker in some of the tracks, that warm fuzzy thing he does so well is here ‘n all….. some Eno as well…. some Stars of The Lid, hints of more recent Murcof and possibly quite a bit of Global Communication. It’s simply gorgeous with more warmth, depth and soul in a record than I’ve heard for a long long time. Fans of drone and melodic electronica will simply adore this I reckon. I think there’s gonna be some special records coming from this guy. Well lovely. Phil x”

Stray Ghost – Fabula/Sjuzhet has sold out, as have a few distro items. Thanks!

EDIT: Tread Softly has just sold out too! Thanks!

New stuff on the way soon, I promise! x

EP1 and Split OUT NOW!

Message to Bears – EP1 is now available for purchase!

“Message to Bears is the alias of Oxford based ambient folker Jerome Alexander. EP1 was originally self released by Jerome back in 2007, but it quickly sold out as it’s popularity spread. After appearing on the very first Dead Pilot release, I knew I wanted to work with Jerome further, so a re-release of EP1 was the perfect option to go for. Describing Jeromes music as ambient folk is only scratching the surface as so many influences can be heard in every aspect of his music. The only way I feel I can get close to giving you any idea of the sound of Message to Bears is to ask you to imagine Explosions in the Sky on acoustic guitars being led by Max Richter, playing your favourite song, on a hill top under the shadow of a tree, on a perfect summer evening. It’s uplifting, nostaligc, hopefull, calm and it lives in you.”

And so is the Split with The Soul’s Release!

The second entry into the Dead Pilot Split Series sees a meeting of Oxford based ambient folker Message to Bears and The Soul’s Release from Northern California. Begining with the Message to Bears half of the split, we are treated to warm and gentle acoustic loops amidst subtle reverbs and layers of violins and other instruments and samples. The Soul’s Release leans more towards post rock with uplifting chord progressions, pianos and the oft whispered vocal line. An amazing split which shows two up coming artists close to perfection.”

Also, the last few of the limited edition Message to Bears t shirts are available now too! There are only a small amount left so if you missed out, hurry!

I haven’t had a chance to listen to the new distro items so I haven’t added them yet, but I will do soon, I promise!

Thanks xxxx

I never know what to put in this title bit!

I have finally finished sending out ALL of the Message to Bears pre-orders. The lucky 20 who got the free t shirt and free copy of the split should all have them by now, while the rest are probably sitting about in a sorting office somewhere or in mid air being flown around the world. Therefore, EP1 and the split with be up available to order in a day or so, I’m just listening through to a bunch of new distro items which I need to add to the store too! Also; for those of you who weren’t in the lucky 20 for the MtB pre-order, I have around 7 t shirts left which will go on sale soon too!
